Broadband coverage in Scotland

- Broadband coverage in Scotland
Download and upload groups are six separate published averages: under 10, 10 to 30, 30 to 100, 100 to 300, 300 to 900, and 900 and above Mbit/s. Each band keeps its own average. They are not added into one speed. Output areas with fewer than five lines stay suppressed, even though these authority rows are already aggregated by Ofcom.
In Scotland, the Ofcom coverage file for January 2026 puts full-fibre availability at 74.0% of all premises. Take-up is published as a separate percentage of the same base, so the two are never added. Take-up for this nation is not in the accepted file, so no take-up gap is published.
74.0% (published interval 73.9% to 74.1%). This is a rounding bound, not a confidence interval.

What this does not mean
Part of what this page would normally show is absent from the published files. Ofcom suppresses output areas with speed information for fewer than five lines, and the local-authority coverage file carries no national row for some measures, so the comparison is dropped rather than approximated. A suppressed cell is never read as zero.
Open a council area inside this nation to see availability and take-up on the same base.
What this page does not show
The comparison with a nation or United Kingdom take-up gap, or with a nation or United Kingdom band mean, is not calculated. Those aggregates are not in the accepted files.
since 2024 we no longer report on speeds at postcode level
the figures provided here can be compared with the ones reported in 2024 but are not directly comparable with the ones from earlier years
We only include output areas with speed information for at least five lines
It does not tell you the speed at your address. No postcode speed has been published since 2024, and this site does not model one.
It does not say a service will work at a given premises. Availability is a modelled count of premises that could order a service, and one address inside a covered postcode can still be unserved.
It does not mix units. Postcodes, premises and active lines are three different things, and a percentage of one is never read as a percentage of another.
It does not read a suppressed figure as zero. Where fewer than five active lines sit behind a cell, Ofcom withholds it and so do we.
It does not compare periods that were not published together. Coverage is January 2026; line performance is July 2025; a difference between them would describe the calendar, not the network.
